Lenzing: new type of Lyocell fiber for flushable wet wipes

"Flushability" is not only an explosive topic in the media, among regulators and the value chain of the nonwovens industry, but also increasingly a social problem that has a global impact on public wastewater infrastructures. For this reason, Lenzing developed a new type of Veocel Lyocell fiber with Eco Disperse technology for further improved mechanical decomposition and biodesintegration for flushable wet wipes.

All Veocel Lyocell fibers with Eco Disperse technology are of botanical origin and are characterized by high wet tensile strength, biodegradability and effective liquid management. The cellulosic fibers are available in cut lengths from 8 mm to 12 mm and can be processed over most wet laying processes in mixing ratios from 20% to 40%. Nonwoven products made from these fibers and pulp have been classified as "fully flushable" in accordance with the fourth edition of the May 2018 Inda/Edana Flushability Guidelines for disposable wipes, after having undergone seven rigorous industrial tests.
